Local teen gets creative to pay college tuition

Ryan Waltman felt the pull to the ministry when he was only 11 years old. Since then, after helping with several aspects of church leadership, he began to narrow his focus to music evangelism. He is asking for help from the community in order to see his plans to fruition.

Ryan told us his journey to follow God’s will is calling him to attend the Master’s Commission School of Ministry. Because the school is not accredited, he is unable to apply for state and federal aid to help cover the seven thousand dollars he needs for the first year of tuition.

With help from friends and family, Ryan has come up with a creative way to begin working toward earning the money he needs. He is planning East Central’s first ever, "Mom Prom" to be held on August 22nd at the East Central Community Center. This will be an elegant night of dinner and live entertainment right here in Hurley. "My Mom Prom is a great opportunity for moms and dads to be able to dress up and enjoy an affordable night out," Ryan said. Childcare will be provided for those who purchase tickets early.

Ryan is also asking for local businesses to help sponsor this event by making donations. Participating sponsors will be listed on the website set up for the event and in the program provided that night.

For more information, check out their website at www.mymomprom.com. Tickets are $35 each or $60 per couple and can be purchased online or by calling Ryan at 588-8543. Tickets are also available in The E.C. Link newsroom.
